Assignment #3:
Put a new line between assignment #2 and #3,
Copy the assignment to your page.
Add the date at the top of your page.
Add your answers to the TOP of your page under the date.
Choose five characters from the story,
Write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.
BOLD the character's name and write your sentences about that character right underneath his or her name.
Mr. Justice Wargrave:
Mr. Wargrave is a very wealthy man and he is also a smoker. Mr Wargrave is a older man and he is a retired judge.
Vera Claythorne:
Vera Clathorne is a third-class traveler which means she is not a very wealthy person but she is a very poor person either. Vera Claythorne is also a games mistress and she is in school.
Philip Lombard:
Philip Lombard is a business man, who is tall has a brown with light eyes and he is arrogant. Philip Lombard is also an attractive man.
Miss Emily Brent:
Miss Emily Brent is a very proper person and she is a very judgmental person. Miss Brent is also a persnickety to young people and she is 65 years old.
General Macarthur:
General Macarthur is a army man and he is a wealthy man as well. General Macarthur is a very impassient man too.
Some good descriptions of the characters. Watch for spelling errors and the correct use of 'a' and 'an' before a word that begins with a vowel. For example, 'an' older man rather than 'a' older man. Mrs. M
Put a line between Assignment #1 and Assignment #2.
Read chapter two.
On your student page ABOVE assignment #1, choose one of the following: suspense or foreshadowing.
Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing.
Examples of Foreshadowing
-First example of foreshadowing:
"He'll ask me now if I was old enough to be in the War. These old boys always do."
I say this is an example of foreshadowing because the man is saying what the general will ask him next. Foreshadowing is used to provide clues for the reader to be able to predict what might occur later in the story.
-Second example of foreshadowing:
" I wish I'd seen the Owens....I wish I knew what they were like"
I say this is an example of foreshadowing because the lady is saying what she hopes to see later on.
-Third example of foreshadowing:
" I am leaving my ordinary life behind me."
I say this is an example of foreshadowing because it sounds like something is going to happen that will change him.
-Fourth example of foreshadowing:
"All the same, this evening. I'll imagine to myself that I'm not going back- that I've done with London and Harley Street and all the rest of it."
This is an example of foreshadowing because he thinks his life will not go back to what it use to be like.
Brian-
You have some very good examples. However, each of the examples should be written separately in one section; you could use bullets to list them. Once they are listed, combine all your ideas into one paragraph about foreshadowing. Try not to use 'I say this is an example of foreshadowing' in each sentence. When you combine ideas into a paragraph, vary the beginning of every sentence.
I like the line you used to separate the assignments. You'll have to show me where you found that!
Mrs. M
how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?
A narrative is a story that is created in a orderly format that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events. It is a novel or short story in which a detective investigates and solves a crime.
how might the title be a clue to the story?
A title could be a clue to a story because it could be a clue to whats going to happen in the story like for instance for the book we are reading " Then there were none" there could be a group of people and then they all disappear and then there are none.
Brian-
Good start. Reread your post to see if you have clearly answered both questions. The second answer is all one sentence, or a run-on. If you want help revising, please let me know.
